Actively Listening

I was recently reminded that when we are listening to other people, we often fall into the pattern of coming up with answers and suggestions before they have even finished speaking.  We race ahead and make assumptions which creates frustration and annoyance.

Listening to others is something we do every day and yet, are we actively listening?

There are 2 simple things you can do to be an Active Listener:

  1. Recognise your own thoughts when listening to someone else
  2. Move your thoughts aside and focus on what is being said

When we can quieten our own thoughts and listen with a level of intention, we create a safe environment and our communication is enhanced.
