Let’s be honest — a lot of us are chronic over preparers. We plan, we list, we troubleshoot before the problem even exists. And still… something unexpected always pops up.
And what do we do? We roll with it. Every single time.
This week reminded us (again) how much energy we can spend trying to “get ahead” of the unpredictable. We set it all up perfectly — then people cancel, the plan shifts, the energy changes. And suddenly we’re in the moment, doing what we actually do best: responding with agility, using our instincts, leaning on the support around us.
Sometimes we catch ourselves mid-prep spiral and just have to laugh. Because the truth is, we’ve never not figured it out.
Maybe it’s not about having every base covered. Maybe it’s about preparing just enough — and then trusting ourselves (and our team, our people, our wisdom) to meet the moment.
We can still care deeply and be diligent. But we can also soften the grip. We can let the stress go. And we can laugh a little more when we catch ourselves doing that thing again.
Because the goal was never perfection. It’s always been about presence, trust, and showing up — however the day unfolds.
Do you find yourself overpreparing for the unknown too?
