Bravery

One weekend recently, the family was feeling a little restless, so we decided to head out for a picnic! We arrived at a gorgeous location and unpacked the car with all the essentials: food, picnic bag, chairs etc. We strolled through the park and found an empty park bench to set up our picnic. After about 10 mins we were invaded by a family of noisy butcher birds who wanted us to feed them, but we weren’t falling for it. Just because they were noisy, we were not going to give them our food.

After about 10 mins of their noisy chirping, the baby butcher bird started walking underneath the table and we were curious – what was he doing? From what we could see, nothing really. The next thing we knew, there was a flurry of wings under the table!! After I caught my breath, we discovered that the baby butcher bird was after a juicy witchetty grub, just minding his own business under the table.  So, we helped him out by moving the grub somewhere more accessible, and immediately the butcher bird grabbed it and flew off. Angel’s comment was – “Wow, he was a brave bird” and it got me thinking about the idea of being Brave.

This lead to me wondering why we often observe braveness in others, but rarely do we acknowledge bravery within ourselves. Here are some further thoughts on why this happens.
